Differences from the manga[]
As the film contains content that isn't featured in the anime adaptation yet (as of Episode 7), the information below may contain potential spoilers. Please click "Expand" at your own risk.
- The timeskip of Akira's working in his company was 2 years opposed to 5
- A scene of Saori's accepting the chairman's sexual "offer" has been omitted after she interacted with Akira.
- Saori's role has been expanded in the movie:
- She was shown to be briefly alive when Akira arrives at her place before she succumbed to her wounds caused by the zombified chairman.
- After Akira tackled the chairman, Saori kills him with a framed photo of him and his wife while learning the fact that he was cheating on her before being turned into a zombie.
- Rather than falling off the building, Akira tackles the chairman to a nearby shelf.
- While the manga/anime had Saori chasing an escaping Akira, the movie had him locked the zombified woman into her apartment after his confession towards her.
- Sumire Kousaka is pregnant with her husband’s child.
- Rather than tying a football to car horn to lure away zombies to reach Kenichirou Ryuuzaki, he uses a bead speaker with loud music to lure the zombies away instead
- Shou and his gang’s fight with the zombies are omitted.
- Shizuka serves as a role of a flight attendant, replacing Yukari.
- Both Reika and Maki were both intimate through airline related gestures towards Kenichirou rather than just Maki.
- Akira’s group visits a hot spring, though it excludes Beatrix Amerhauser as she was absent in the film. It should be noted that the events of film took place before she joined Akira’s group with the hotspring trip as that event is rearranged more earlier.
- Gunzou leads the Aquarium rather than a truck stop and explained the company was shooting a commercial when the zombie outbreak happened though it still had same role as the truck stop.
- Akira and Co's time at the aquarium was extended with some things changed and/or added;
- There was a chase scene where the group and some survivors run from zombies in the building.
- The part where Akira lures Zombies to a Food Truck while having trucks block zombies and burn them were replaced with a fight with a Zombified Shark.
- While the manga had Gunzou reduced into a cowardly and sobbing wreck upon getting saved by Akira and later getting abandoned, the movie had the former briefly went back to status quo as he was shown to be enraged and desparate upon seeing his workers leaving and abandoning him.
- In the post-credits scene, Gonzou attempted to go on his way after his abandonment.
Notes[]
- The film adapts the first 11 chapters of the manga.
- The Godzilla Head in Hotel Shinjuku cameos in one scene.
- Eiji Akaso, Mai Shiraishi and Shuntaro Yanagi would later make a cameo in the anime adaptation's 7th episode.
